Recipe for Homemade Ginger Beer.
Ingredients:
2.25 litres of boiling water
3 teaspoons of ground ginger
200g sugar
12g dried yeast
a half teaspoon of Cream of Tartar
juice and rind of one lemon
Plus 2 really clean litre bottles and one small bottle, with lids.
(These should have been rinsed out with boiling water - you should ask your
mum for help with this bit).
Put the sugar, ginger, Cream of Tartar and lemon rind into a really large pot (maybe a pasta pot?) and mix them all together.
Pour in the boiling water and mix everything together until the sugar dissolves.
Leave this for a while until it has cooled down a bit, but is still warm. (So the yeast will work).
Now add the yeast along with the lemon juice.
Cover the pot and let your beer brew for 24 hours.
Next day, skim the scummy yeast off the top, then strain the liquid through a sieve and into a jug.
Pour the beer into your clean bottles.
Now put the lids tightly onto the bottles and
leave the ginger beer for 3 days.
After the 3 days, you can drink the ginger beer. You must drink it all
within a week, otherwise it starts to become highly explosive!
